Performance Crafting: Tanya Aguiñiga
Based on the article, “Craft Happening: Tanya Aguiñiga Vs. the Beverly Hills Police”
Tijuana-born, L.A.-based artist Tanya Aguiñiga is known for her furniture that is covered with felt. For her “performance crafting” collaboration with Artbound, she trades place with her objects, and invites a group of workers to cover her from head-to-toe in felt. — KCET, ARTBOUND

Tanya Aguiñiga is an extremely talented artist/designer and a pretty big deal. If you are not familiar with her work, google her right now. (I’ll wait.) She also happens to be a very dear friend of mine. Her work runs the gamut from stylishly practical to highly conceptual and her medium of choice these days is fiber. This particular work is what she calls ‘performance crafting.’ It took place in the the storefront of an empty shop in Atwater Village, LA, on view to the public, and involved her allowing herself to be felted from head-to-toe by a group of trusted friends and collaborators. I was on-hand and hands-on to help out and the video above was made for the KCET series Artbound.
